Oscar Widerberg leads work package 1 of Transformative Partnerships 2030. He is the Deputy Department Head and Assistant Professor in the Environmental Policy Analysis section at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU).
Oscar's research focuses on the role of transnational institutions - including cities, regions, companies, and other actors - in global sustainability governance. His research has been published in academic articles, books, policy reports, and opinion pieces, among others in Nature Climate Change, Environmental Politics, and Cambridge University Press. In 2019, he was lead author of the UNEP gap report chapter and stand-alone report on non-state and sub-national climate action. Before joining the IVM, Oscar worked in consulting, advising public authorities, primarily European institutions, on energy, environment and climate policies. He holds a PhD from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, a master's in sustainable development from Utrecht University, and a bachelor's in international relations.
